[ Sakichi's horse has wandered off. Perhaps chased away by passersby or cars, or in search of food...? Sakichi has no clue, but he feels a need to find her immediately. The city is a dangerous place for loose animals, after all.
Eventually, he catches a glimpse of a hoofprint in the dirt at the edge of the forest. He follows its trajectory undaunted, his eye to the ground for more tracks to guide him. Eventually, he cups his hands around his mouth and starts calling clear out into the woods. ]
Nadeshiko! Nadeshikooo!
[ And he'll just keep doing that until he finds his horse!! ]
However he's got to wander off to feed his chocobo at some point, given that Kashuu's been doing all the shrine maintenance for so long. The shrine itself is dimly lit by candle light to allow vision in an otherwise dense part of the forest, allowing it to take on some of that old feel - as if it really doesn't quite belong in this era.
But he hears the voice and raises a brow, pausing in his brushing of his chocobo - ]
Seriously?
[what are the odds?
and now he'll wait for that clip clop clip clop of hooves]
A glamorous, improbably pink-maned white horse glitters up to the edge of Kumou Shrine. She is especially radiant in the gloom of the forest. She raises her head to gaze at the shrine and at the man and bird within its fencing. Curiosity implies a certain nosiness; she is not curious. She is attentive. Also, fabulous.
Her ears prick up when she hears her man calling again. She clip clops toward his voice, dismissing the other man and the bird.
Soon, Sakichi stumbles out of the brush. Miscellaneous leaves and brambles are stuck to his clothes because he has been wandering for quite some time. But he was drawn to the faint light of the shrine, and for the better -- he sees Nadeshiko immediately and trots over to meet her. Her tail swishes gently as he pats her on the muzzle. ]
Nadeshiko! What made you wander this far?
[ Finally, his attention turns to the greater source of light: the old-fashioned shrine behind Nadeshiko. Was this always here...? ]
[The meeting of two fabulous creatures in the forest - and Sakichi and Baren are there, too.
V stands at attention at the appearance of others in the shrine. Animals, V has learned, are fine... but other people should be treated with caution. He cocks his head to the side even as he leaves Baren and moves to evaluate Sakichi. Unfamiliar face! Who is this!! He makes whatever sound chocobos make to alert Baren -
Who gets up and stares at the horse.
And sighs.]
They gave you your fucking horse...
[Tanuki-san scutters in from a different part of the forest, just for irony.]
[ After a long moment, Nadeshiko swishes her tail peaceably. She is satisfied with the bird's mettle. And it's only natural that she should try to be on good terms with a bird after her own spirit.
Sakichi looks past Baren and at the shrine itself, then up at the sign on the torii gate. "Kumou"...? ]
I didn't expect someone so irreverent to own a shrine. Do you live here?
[ That's Sakichi's question... He opens his mouth to respond when he starts daydreaming.
That's what it feels like, anyway. A forced daydream where the shrine is still there, but the skies are open and overcast. He makes his way up the steps, only to find the floor littered with animal carcasses. Disgusted, he covers his nose and finds a stick to clear the path. The leaves fly up around him. An affected, almost mysterious voice speaks to him, and bewildered he rushes up to a shrine guardian statue. It all ends in a sharp pain in his head.
He blinks and finds Baren in front of him again. ]
[ - but also it's the first memory that's not about a horse that Sakichi's gotten. So Baren steps aside and seems to overall be willing to let Sakichi to inspect the place.
It's considerably cleaner now, given the amount of upkeep that Baren's swords have put into it. They work hard on the shrine and he tries to be careful with it in turn.]
[ Sakichi pays no attention to Baren's comment and makes his way into the shrine, Nadeshiko clip-clopping politely behind him. He retraces the steps in his memory, glancing around at the same stone lanterns and wooden structures. What a strange feeling of deja vu. Unconsciously, he makes his way back to the same guardian statue he'd started inspecting at the end of his memory... and starts inspecting it again.
He circles around it before stopping to stare intently at its stony face. It wasn't really talking, was it...? ]
[ Sadly(?), Sakichi is familiar enough with Baren's voice to recognize it even in a growl, but he still twitches briefly, unable to keep the alarm off his face as he whirls on Baren. ]

Sakichi looks at the chocobo in surprise, then at Baren in even more surprise. For Sakichi, that just means his eyebrows raise a little. ]
Baren? What are you doing here?
[ Meanwhile, Nadeshiko sidesteps to stand patiently by Sakichi and stare at the chocobo. Attentive. ]

Do you often question why people are found on their own property or is that a special thing reserved for me.

Nah, it's just the shrine. No beds or anything.
[But he shrugs one shoulder.]
Not wrong about the irreverent bit though. What's a shrine to a nonbeliever?

What do you know about this statue?!

What's causing the alarm, Sakicchan?

This statue spoke to me in my vision. Then I felt a pain in my head, and it ended.
